Juliet Pog-osia, MA Fine Arts.

Large-scale relief sculpture paintings, collages and films are the signatures of Juliet Pog-osia a London-based visual artist. She is of the Ijaw Tribe, Ogbia in Bayelsa state Nigeria.
Her artworks address domestic violence, misogyny, modern slavery, race, and female genital mutilation (FGM). She expresses these themes through her oeuvres, which are visually compelling, and are reminiscent of African art, placing the works of black female artists in the spotlight.
Her paintings are usually hopeful, bountiful, and celebratory. Her most recent works are consistent ‘literal hybrids blends’ of materials and processes of her oeuvre exploring issues of domestic violence, against women in our society. Her work also aims to mirror and improve society where people do not make unwarranted distinctions between individuals based on the groups or class, race, sexual orientation, religion and age.
Artist Juliet Pog-osia has drawn on her heritage to make art that is explicitly diplomatic, confrontational and brings to attention the racial issues black women are facing right now. Her works also allow productive conversation about discrimination and prejudice, and what can be done to help. The world art scene would undoubtedly be poorer without these contributions.
